The Tattingstone Wonder is one of the most famous follies in Britain. It started life as a pair of cottages, until in the 1790s Squire White decided to improve the view from Tattingstone Place. He built a third cottage on the end and topped it with a square flint church tower. The front of the cottages was then replaced by a facade with two gothic windows plus a large rose window on the south eastern wall. |

Alton Water is a vast man-made lake, created in the 1970s and 80s to supply drinking water to the people of South Suffolk. There's plenty to do on and around the water. A footpath runs around the perimeter plus there's a wildlife sanctuary. On the water itself there are various water sports on offer including angling, sailing and windsurfing. Alton Water is a great day out for nature lovers, bird watchers and water sports enthusiasts alike. |
